Want us to come to your town?

Thanks for the responses to our quest to find the perfect, small, country music lovers paradise somewhere in America. It sounds like there are a few to choose from. It's not up to me, but Craig, Colorado sounds pretty ideal. Mildridge, Maine doesn't sound too bad either.
It's nice list so far, but we want a few more towns to speak up before we start the voting process.
As a reminder, please read the following:

It's time to start thinking about our annual summer trip to the heart of America.
Do you come from a small dot on the map packed with die-hard Country Music fans?
If so, I want to hear from you. Tell me about your town and why you think we should bring our show there. Get creative! Your letters WILL be posted for all to view.
We'll pick the top 5 letters and then I'll let you, my little blogging friends, pick the winner.
Sorry, no big cities will be considered. Small towns only.

Show your hometown pride!

Storme: I love watching you host the show Country Music Across America. There's a firehouse in King of Prussia, PA where a bunch of country music fans go line dancing once a week. It would be great if you could visit them.

Well since you won't come to Jacksonville, maybe Middleburg? Home of Johnny and Donnie. But if you really want down to earth "Southern Hospitality", then my hometown ADEL, GEORGIA is just the place for you to visit and I would be more than Happy to show you around town and introduce you to some of the fine, friendly folks. This is where at 5:00pm, the streets and sidewalks get rolled up until the next day, (except on Wednesday, it's 12:00pm Noontime). First Baptist Church still has Wednesday Night Family Suppers and prayer meetings. If it isn't Football Season or Baseball Season, then on Friday Night, everyone's hang out is the Dairy Queen parking lot. In High School, we didn't fall in love in the Wal-Mart Parking lot, it was the Dairy Queen's (and yes, we DID hide our Beer as the Police drove by or your Mom-ma would know when you got home that you were uptown drinking). The Dairy Queen is still family-owned and operated, the BEST Dairy Queen in the world. Adel has NO chain grocery stores. Each Grocery Store is Family Owned and Operated. Friendliest Place in the USA. Adel still has Volunteer Firemen that take great pride in their job. I would love for you to bring your show there. The Mayor would meet and greet you and probably give you a Key to the City. Then you could dine at Carter's Fried Chicken Restaurant, which has the BEST fried chicken and catfish (yes, freshly caught each morning) You would certainly have a great time and a wonderful visit! I love your show!

Hi Storme:
I don't know if this would count or not,but Union KY is a somewhat small country town.I say small because, while we are getting new business like wendys.etc,it's still out in the country, where there are great country people. We have a state park(Big Bone Lick State Park),we are near Rabbit Hash KY,home of the famous Rabbit Hash Genral Store, and we are 5 miles from where the late Kenny Price used to live(Florence KY).

Just a thought.Keep up the great work Storme.
GREG

Ventura! Come to the beach in California. Great small town on the ocean. KHAY keeps us up to speed on what's going on in Nashville. You were here a while ago with Billy Ray Cyrus at the harbor. We'd love to welcome you back!
Didn't you graduate from Buena?

My story really doesn't count as a diehard country fan. In fact, I only started listening to country music again about 3 months ago. Why?
Well, on Jan 16th, my husband died. He was 10 years younger than I am. We had many discussions about death, burials, and last wishes. Not because he was sick, but because I was. In Aug of 04, I was hospitalized for renal failure, and was not expected to live. I wasn't even aware of that fact until after getting out of the hospital and talking to my doctor, who had been coincedentally on vacation that week and knew nothing about it until I was out and he returned. Until 5 months ago, we lived in a nasty little city. We have a 6 year old son, his only child, and he started school this past September. Realizing that this was no place to raise a child, we found a great little place in my old home town. I spent my young adult life trying to get out of this town, but after some consideration, decided it would be a better place for our young son. So, more than 25 years later, here we are, in my old home town. We were starting to get used to friendly smiles and courteous drivers when everything went wrong.Three days before he died, he became irritable, angry, and even picked fights with me. We got into an argument, and he stormed out of the house. It was a sunday night. Monday morning, I got a knock on the door from the local police, with a message from the state police. Thinking that this was my husbands way of getting back at me, I got rather irritated and demanded they tell my what was going on. They said my husband was found dead in his work vehicle. I thought it was a joke. The state police ended up in my living room, asking me medical questions, about any drug or alcohol use, which there was none, and it hit me like a sledge hammer. He was really gone. I immediately fell apart, and contacted everyone I could think of. A very good friend from kentucky played me a song from Diamond Rio, I believe. From that second, I was drawn back into the country music I was raised with, and even sang a little of in my younger days. I even played that song at his service. I was turned back onto a world that I never thought I would look back at. Back in my old hometown, back into the country music that got me singing. Since that sad day in January, I have done nothing but listen to country music everywhere. I watch GAC and VH1Country all the time. I have the only local country station permanently on in my car. As I travel around this sleepy little town, I have Tim MacGraw, Diamond Rio, Kieth Urban and Rascal Flatts as my background theme songs. Some days, its the only comfort I have, besides my little boy who looks exactly like his father.
Do I think this town is diehard country? Well, I am not sure. I do know that when I was growing up, nearly every adult I ever knew played Conway Twitty, Merl Haggard, and watched Hee Haw faithfully. I remember listening to the Grand Old Opry with my granny. I remember singing Patsy Cline songs as young as 10 years old. All my friends called my granny Granny. We spent our summers barefoot in the woods, and swimming in the fishing hole. I remember watching everyone I knew cry when the news of Elvis dying hit the television. All I can say is, diehard, maybe not, but country music has become the only thing I can hear.

Just one question, Darlene:
Where do you live?

Storme

Sorry Storme, I got carried away with my typing....

Middleboro, Massachusetts

We certainly aren't southern, but we definately are country.

We live in Georgetown County in South Carolina but we are in Andrews, SC more than Georgetown. When we go for entertainment we go to a little town Berphera,SC. There is a place called the pickin palor that is owned by Guy And Tina (don't know there last name. This is for anyone that plays musical instruments that get together and sing and play. There are a lot of good pickers and fiddlers. Especially this four women that sing the best harmony that can be heard anywhere. I believe that this is the best place for a family to go because it is family orinated and kids come. If someone is caught drinking they are asked to leave. Thanks

Dear Storme,
We come from a small town, well most people call it a hicktown that because it is. We live in Craig Colorado, it is about 4 hours from Denver. There is no where to shop but K-Mart and Maurices. We rescently got a Murdochs which everyone was so happy about. Everybody is so friendly to one another and it is a very intersting town. It is full of ranchers, farmers, and even some city slickers. Our schools get involved with some activities for all students. We all cheer on our teams when competing againt our rivals, Steamboat. There is some sort of game alomst every friday. I really hope our town can be recognized for all the hard work everyone does.
Sincerly,
Samantha and Melissa

Hi Storme,

I am from Checotah, Oklahoma. It is certainly a small town with a big heart. Of course, our Carrie comes from here, but did you know? We have state senators, a nuclear scientist, a pulitizer prize winning journalist, a war hero with a Navy ship named after him, the president of the Oklahoma AARP, a best selling author, the president of the Chemical Association and of course, the famous rodeo champions, Roy Duvall, Spud Duvall, Sam Duvall, Ote Berry, Austin Mieir, the Combs brothers and others. J. C. Penny name a shirt and jeans after our town, and Justin Boots sponsors some of our rodeo champions. ESPN is filming the Duvall Jackpot this weekend. With all of that going for us, we still have the small town atmosphere, with antique shops, small hometown resturants, Eufaula Lake nearby, and a historical battlefield, Honey Springs. We have several authors who currently reside in town, and a great history in our Checotah High School, starting from 1895. We also have Native American cemetaries, established before statehood, including the famous McIntosh cemetary. Checotah is in McIntosh County. We also have the Katy Depot that contains more history than any small town in Oklahoma. All of that, and we are about 3,500 strong. It's such a beautiful little town, with a pocket park just at the center where people sit and eat or just read during a lunch break. Ok...what else can I say...it's awesome here! You really need to come and visit us!

I am from Erick, Oklahoma a small town with one stop light about 7 miles west of the Oklahoma/Texas border on I-40. We have a few restaurants, gas stations,a post office, a store, and two schools, the Grade school K-6 and the High School 7-12 grades. The school system has some where around 300 students total in the two schools combined. Also we are the home town of singer, Roger Miller and singer/actor, Sheb Wooley. Route 66 runs straight though our town as it goes through town it is named after Roger Miller. Our main street in town is called Sheb Wooley. The nearest big city is Elk City and it is about a 30 minute drive there. Will Rogers World Airport which is in Oklahoma City is a little over 150 miles away and is a 2 and a half hour drive. We would really enjoy seeing you here in my home town, Erick!

I am from Ocala Florida and I know tons of people who are huge country fans. Alot of the people I talk to are crazy about country. I think Ocala is a small town because we don't have all the stores that other cities in florida do. I talk to my teacher all the time about country music. He is a big fan of Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts. Alot of guys in my class always sing to country music as well

Hi Storme,

Check out Globe Arizona, population 9,000, a copper mining town started in 1876. We are 90 miles east of Phoenix in the mountains of east central Arizona. Our main street has a building from 1878 and the tallest four story office building in the West. Gas at the moment is $2.87 at the lowest. the late cowboy actor Jack Elam was born in Miami, Arizona, a town just west of Globe. Country singer Sammi Smith who made "Help Me Make It Through the Night" a No. 1, lived here until recently.

Regards, LJ

We even know the people and what they are all up to in towns that are 25 to 30 miles away from us. The nearest Wal-mart is 35 miles away. We are in lobster country and we love our country music!
